WITH DEPLOYMENT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN FACILITIES MANAGEMENT KNOW HOW SECURE IS THE PERSONAL DATA

Artificial Intelligence is a beneficial tool for Facilities Management (FM) teams, that can save money, reduce energy usage and improve productivity.

As smart buildings gather data from various sources, the risk of loss or misuse of personal data increases, so FM service providers must consider what measures are appropriate to diminish or remove this risk.

Deployed AI can increase the potential vulnerabilities of underlying software and systems. AI enabled offerings may involve many devices. As the AI supply-chain often utilises third-party or open-source code, and requires third-party software be installed to run the AI model to analyse outputs. A security defect in any one component could compromise the personal data anywhere in the system. Therefore, AI systems developed and deployed must be kept up to date and they should be audited and reviewed regularly for weaknesses in security.

GDX recommends isolation of the AI development environment from the rest of the organisation’s IT system. Contractual arrangements with third-party suppliers must be reviewed to ensure FM service providers are immediately notified of security problems if discovered.
